Miles Logan (Martin Lawrence) is a jewel thief who, along with some accomplices, steals a $17 million diamond in Los Angeles. Things go awry during the robbery when one accomplice, Deacon (Peter Greene), wants the diamond all for himself. Deacon manages to kill one member of the team and tries to escape with the diamond. This wastes time as Logan and Deacon argue over it, and the police end up closing in on them and Logan makes a quick escape to a nearby construction site. He is forced to hide the diamond in one of the vents, hoping to later come back to the building and claim it. Logan is caught and arrested as a robber, but no proof goes towards his taking the diamond. Deacon is assumed to have escaped, leaving Logan to his fate. Logan spends two years in jail, leaving his girlfriend, Janiece (Tamala Jones) to forget about him. After he gets out of jail (with one shoelace), he returns to his girlfriend's house and assumes that she gained weight when he first sees her cousin instead. She is angry for him lying to her by telling her that he was a banker and turns him out. Logan has no other place to go, so he heads back to the spot where he hid the diamond. An unidentified man who allegedly robbed the Wachovia Bank in West Rome this morning died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after leading police on a chase that ended at the Steak 'N Shake parking lot in the Village Shopping Center on Turner McCall Boulevard, police said.

The suspect did not have any ID on his person, said Coroner Barry Henderson.

Police are processing the vehicle, which had a Cobb County tag, to see if they can determine his identification, Henderson said.

Ray Chastain said he witnessed the shooting after the suspect stopped at Steak 'N Shake.

Chastain said he saw the police approach the vehicle and saw the man shoot himself.

“He raised the gun and popped himself. That’s what it looked like to me,” Chastain said.

Chastain said the man had the gun in his right hand, which would explain why the driver’s side window was knocked out.

Police found a bullet casing an estimated 60 feet from the vehicle.

Police also noted that no law enforcement firearms were fired at the scene.

The suspect was described as a 6-foot Asian male dressed in blue jeans and gray shirt.

Police say he robbed the Wachovia Bank, 2219 Shorter Ave. across from the Gala Shopping Center.

The suspect then exited the bank and left in a blue car.

According to a reporter on scene, the robber, driving a powder blue Acura, collided with Rome K-9 unit on the passenger side. Airbags were deployed in the Acura.

Rome City Police Lt. Roy Willingham told reporters that the suspect's gunshot wound was self-inflicted. Police have called the coroner to the scene.

Dept.Chief Lonzo Roberson confirmed that the suspect was armed during the robbery. He could not confirm the type of firearm the suspect was carrying.

The amount of cash taken has not been determined and there was no evidence that anyone else was involved in the robbery, Roberson said.

Jags WR pistol-whipped in attack

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Kassim Osgood was pistol-whipped in an attack when the ex-boyfriend of a 19-year-old Jaguars cheerleader he was visiting confronted them, according to a report on the Florida Times-Union’s website.

Osgood, 30, reportedly leaped out a second-floor window to get away from the armed man late Monday.

The gun-wielding intruder exchanged fire with the woman after putting a gun to her head, saying, "What did that football player say to his girlfriend, it's a good day to die," misquoting ex-Florida Gators player Chris Rainey's text message to a former girlfriend after an arrest, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.

Osgood, also a standout on special teams, had minor bruises from being pistol-whipped and jumping out of the second-floor window, according to the report.

"He's fine," Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said Wednesday. "I'm aware of it. I really can't comment on that whole deal. He's doing OK."

The reported gunman, Julian Armond Barletto, 20, was arrested on charges of aggravated battery, false imprisonment, armed robbery, burglary and violation of an injunction, according to police.

Mackenzie Rae Putnal and Osgood were watching television in a second-floor game room around 11:15 p.m. when a man wearing a plastic bag to cover his face walked in, pointed a gun at them and said, "I can't believe you're with that guy," the arrest report said. Barletto pulled Putnal around the room by her hair and hit her with his fists and gun before pistol-whipping Osgood, the report said.

The armed assailant tackled the woman as she tried to flee, taking her cell phone and holding the gun to her head as well as Osgood's. The woman escaped down the hall and leaped over a balcony to the floor below after the gunman told the couple to sit on the floor, the report said.

As the gunman chased after the woman, Osgood jammed a chair under the game room door handle and jumped out a window and onto the lawn, running to a neighbor's house to call police. Meanwhile, Putnal and Barletto confronted each other with guns downstairs, both shooting and missing, the report said.

Barletto ran as Putnal called police but was arrested after being found at his home, police said.

The Jaguars declined comment on Putnal's status as one of the team's 32 cheerleaders. She is listed in the 2010 media guide as a dental hygiene major but is no longer on the team's website. The team has a rule forbidding cheerleaders to date players.

Osgood has two receptions for 29 yards this season, including a 24-yard TD catch in the opener against Denver. He played seven seasons for San Diego and made three Pro Bowls as a special teams ace before signing with the Jaguars.
