$1 million prize eludes Obama rally streaker

A New York City man who ran naked through President Obama's campaign rally in a bid to win a $1 million Internet challenge will not receive the full prize.

British billionaire Alki David, who initiated the publicity stunt, said 24-year-old Juan J. Rodriguez didn't meet the requirements for the full prize because he didn't get within eyesight or earshot of the president.

Instead, David will pay the Staten Island man's rent for a year, his sister's medical bills and an undisclosed cash settlement, David said in a statement. Rodriguez has vowed to try it again, David said, this time with another "undisclosed head of state."

Rodriquez was arrested after streaking at the Philadelphia rally on Sunday. Police charged him with indecent exposure, public lewdness and disorderly conduct. He was released Monday night on a $10,000 bond.

David offered the $1 million to anyone who could streak in front of Obama with the name of David's video Website on his chest.

Rodriguez said he thought that he'd met the requirements.

Details emerge on book thrown at Obama

Yes, the publishing industry is reeling these days, but surely authors surely can find less disruptive ways to promote their newly published works than hauling off and throwing a copy at the president of the United States.

But you know what they say: There's no such thing as bad publicity. Something like that thought probably crossed the mind of the unidentified man who hurled a paperback at President Obama at a rally at Philadelphia's Vernon Park over the weekend. Mark Knoller of CBS said that the Secret Service has interviewed the author, whom they described as an "overexuberant" Obama supporter who merely wanted to make sure that the president had a copy of his book. The determined scribe said he meant no harm but exercised horrendous judgment -- and that was apparently good enough for the Secret Service, which didn't seek charges against him.
