Super Wi-Fi to boost wireless ranges. The FCC is pushing to approve a Wi-Fi that will boost the current super signal by 16 times.
If the measure is approved, standard W-Fi signals will become super because their range will be 16 times greater. The Federal Communications Commission wants to utilize unused space between TV channels that have converted to digital.
The white space spectrum offers a lot of opportunities because the airwaves are capable of passing through walls and bringing larger signals to mobile devices such as laptops and smartphones.
The FCC is expected to rule on September 23. "Consumer demand for spectrum-hungry mobile devices
is a very good thing, but it also creates infrastructure problems," FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said in a statement. "This is one of the most important things that we're working on."
