Harold Dow death unexpected: CBS News '48 Hours' correspondent dies suddenly - Video

Harold Dow, a Emmy-winning CBS News correspondent, died Saturday, August 21. CBS news network spokeswoman Louise Bashi stated that Dow, 62, died suddenly on Saturday morning, but it was not clear if he died at his home in Upper Saddle River, NJ.

News of Dow's death spread through the Web and became an instant Google trend, with many searching for information on this highly accredited news correspondent's unexpected death. He was with the CBS news network for over 40 years, including "48 Hours", "CBS News Sunday Morning" and "CBS Evening News with Dan Rather."

In a statement issued to the press, Susan Zirinsky, executive producer of "48 Hours Mystery" spoke highly of Harold Dow, "It was his humanity, which was felt by everyone he encountered ... that truly defined the greatness of his work. He was the most selfless man I have known."

Dow has a long list of credits including his his award winning work as a correspondent for the CBS TV investigative news series 48 Hours since 1990. Dow also conducted the first network interview for 48 Hours with O. J. Simpson following the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.

Harold Dow is survived by his wife, Kathy and his three children, Danica, Joelle, and David. He lived in Upper Saddle River, N.J., but it wasn't immediately clear if he'd been at home.
